A ROCKY ROAD: Jill Emery works two jobs in addition to pursuing a pro-boxing career.

Women’s boxing has gained popularity through movies like “Million Dollar Baby,” and professional fighters like Laila Ali, daughter of Muhammad Ali.
But the gender gap hasn’t closed much when it comes to money. Jill Emery, a 37-year-old former Golden Gloves champ, has found that making as much cash as the male boxers who train beside her at Gleason’s Gym is her toughest fight yet.

she turned pro at 34, and she expects to be paid like a superstar? the sport really doesnt work that way. I feel bad for her, but the fact is that there are very few women boxers with any skill out there. maybe emery is one of the few, but the reason for low purses to women is lack of accomplished fighters, not sexism
