Rooftop Reflections on Going Green

New York City is going green by painting roofs white. An initiative called NYC Cool Roofs is encouraging building owners to paint the roof of their building with a reflective white paint. The paint contains special properties that reduce carbon emissions, energy use and cooling costs.

The program was launched in 2009 as a part of Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC sustainability program, which aims to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030.
