A recent University of Southern California study, titled “Gender Disparity On Screen and Behind the Camera in Family Films,” reveals that 71 percent of characters in movies for young audiences are male. In Washington Heights, the organizers of the KidCinemaFest sought to highlight diverse movies for children — including two films with strong female leads, “P-Start Rising” and “Viva Cuba.”
