Curbing the Need to Speed

In a bid to reduce traffic fatalities, the city wants to get the word out that the speed limit on New York streets is 30 mph. Following a city study on pedestrian safety released this summer, an ad campaign was launched and a $150,000 grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee was awarded to the NYPD to increase enforcement against speeders.  In addition, the city is looking to to set up a speed camera demonstration program.
