More than 100 homes in Breezy Point were destroyed by flood or fire during the worst of Sandy.

Barbara Joyce, a resident of the beachfront community for more than 40 years, didn’t lose her home. But she’s now faced with massive repairs – replacing walls and floors as she mourns the loss of irreplaceable pictures and other personal items amassed over a lifetime.

While she didn’t have flood insurance, Joyce, like many others in the close-knit neighborhood, is determined to rebuild and stay in the place she still calls home.
