Sandy took a toll on the coastal areas of Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn, and the economic consequences are still being totaled. But in each case, the three boroughs have strong economic foundations that will more than offset the damage from the storm. Meanwhile, Bronx officials have been trumpeting a series of announcements about new businesses and projects, none of which have yet to affect the borough’s dismal poverty statistics or its dubious distinction of having the highest unemployment rate in the state.
