The Ebola virus was first detected in Guinea, West Africa, nine months ago. Since then, more than 9,000 people across the world have contracted the virus and 5,000 people have died from it.
The first confirmed case in New York – a doctor who recently returned from a medical mission – launched efforts to assuage concerns and educate the public on how the virus is spread.
Meanwhile, Dr. Craig Spencer remains in isolation at Bellevue Hospital as authorities are retracing his movements in the days before his diagnosis – including a trip to a Brooklyn bowling alley.
