Manhattan —
This year’s Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree is a 90-year-old, 85-foot Norway Spruce plucked from a Pennsylvania backyard. Some 2.5 million are expected to visit the tree and millions more will see its 45,000 LED lights illuminate on live TV Dec. 3, during the 82nd annual lighting ceremony.
Come Jan. 7, the tree will be taken down, its lights and 9.5-foot Swarovski crystal star will be removed. Then the spruce will be cut into lumber donated to Habitat for Humanity.
