Day of Service on Governors Isle

About one in four Americans say they do some form of volunteer work. In 2009, Congress designated Sept. 11 as a day of national service and remembrance to honor the actions of volunteers in the aftermath of 9/11. Some New Yorkers marked the 14th anniversary of the terror attacks by helping with conservation efforts on Governors Island.
