The slaying of Officer Randolph Holder, the fourth city cop killed in the line of duty since November, prompted mourning in New York and beyond. The fatal shooting – allegedly by a repeat offender out on bail after a drug bust – also spurred demands for action.
Mayor de Blasio and other political leaders are calling for bail law reform aimed at keeping violent criminals off the streets. They want judges to be legally able to assess risk to the public in making bail decisions. Any change to the law would require action in Albany.
