The many Democratic primary candidates seeking to replace retiring Rep. Jose Serrano are increasingly concerned about keeping volunteers and voters healthy.
“Every single petitioner carries at least one hand sanitizer, and after every interaction with someone, they use it,” said Tomas Ramos, one of more than a dozen hopefuls.
In the Bronx, about 1,500 signatures are required to qualify for the ballot. Now that New Yorkers are reluctant to interact on the street, candidates are looking for new ways to connect with voters.
