BROOKLYN —
With unemployment more than twice as high in Brownsville as it is elsewhere in the borough, 58 organizations in the community are running food pantries and soup kitchens.
Horatio Burke, 54, who started coming to the Salvation Army Brooklyn Brownsville Corps Community Center on Riverdale Avenue for food after losing his job as a dishwasher, calls it a lifesaver.
Without access to the food pantry, “I would die from hunger,” he said.
