QUEENS — In the Rockaways, where COVID-19 has hit hard, residents looking for ways to cope have been seeking the help of mental-health counselors.
“People have recently come into our tele-offices with increased fear, worry, racing thoughts, hopelessness, worthlessness, crying spells, and overwhelming sadness,” said Shirley Dorsainvil, a family therapist.
The professionals are also feeling the stress. Tennille Brown, a psychotherapist who lives in Rockaway Beach, turns to her faith, her family and her work: “Since I have my little ones, I am purposefully mindful of the positive and having good energy while projecting love, hope, and kindness to my girls.”
