MANHATTAN —
Once New York City realized COVID-19 was here to stay and that crowded shelters for the homeless are very dangerous, 10,000 men and women were placed in hotel rooms.
Among them were groups of people who traditionally have difficulty finding a place to live—the mentally ill, those in recovery and the formerly incarcerated.
The Lucerne on the Upper West Side is one of the hotels where they have become residents and can stay—for now.
Not all New Yorkers have welcomed their new neighbors.
