BROOKLYN — Debris that has surfaced for decades at Glass Bottle Beach in Marine Park is worth a federal effort to preserve, collectors and treasure hunters contend.
The bottles, bricks and trash buried there as landfill make up an “accidental time capsule” that they say offers a window into how New Yorkers lived in the 1950s.
Antique enthusiasts and history buffs are petitioning the National Park Service to collect, decontaminate, conserve and catalogue the artifacts that draw scavengers on regular searches.
