The New York City Taxi Workers Alliance is demanding that Mayor Bill de Blasio adopt their plan for medallion-debt relief.
Drivers say the city artificially inflated the price of taxi medallions over the years, effectively leaving them to drown in debt as ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft were allowed to flood the streets.
Olivia Bensimon spoke to drivers outside City Hall on their second week of a 24/7 picket about what they fear will happen if the city doesn’t find a way to support them.
