MANHATTAN —
Sculptures depicting John Lewis, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd are on exhibit in Union Square as prominent markers of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Created by Chris Carnabuci of the Confront Art collective, the individual busts—collectively shown as “Seeinjustice”—depict the late civil-rights leader who became an influential member of Congress, the Louisville medical worker killed in her own home by police in a botched raid and the man whose murder by a police officer in Minneapolis sparked a national wave of protests after it was caught on video in 2020.
NYCity News Service reporter Breona Couloote has more on the sculptures and the community that coalesced to restore one after a vandal defaced it.
