BROOKLYN — The Flatbush African Burial Ground Coalition is demanding that the city scrap affordable housing planned for the site and replace it with open space or a memorial.
Borough President Eric Adams, widely viewed as the favorite in next week’s mayoral election, has said he will support what the surrounding community wants. However, residents are seeking a firmer commitment and direct action by Adams.
The community also is awaiting a report by city task force gathering input on how to collaboratively and meaningfully honor the history of the site as its future is planned.
