MANHATTAN —
A new exhibit has opened today to the public, showcasing the collaborations of two of the biggest artists of the 20th century.
Basquiat x Warhol focuses on the collaboration between Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol as they defined the NYC’s downtown art scene in the 1980s. It will be on display at the Brant Foundation Art Study Center in the East Village through Jan. 7, 2024.
Basquiat and Warhol met in 1982 at Warhol’s factory and quickly grew close, creating a total of 160 pieces of art together—many of which will be included in the exhibit.
“It’s really refreshing because you’re used to each artist’s individual works, but to see those works that were done together, in a setting together, it’s incredible to see how they influenced each other,” said Sharon Perkins, a museum visitor.
